In summary there are a few important updates for this process;

  1. License fee has increased from $750.00 to $1,000.00 for the year. This is an 80% increase since last year.
  2. Insurance has gone from a 1 Million Dollar General Liability to a 2 Million Dollar General Liabitlity Insurance Policy.
  3. There is now a $50.00 application fee. When inquired about this, I was told it was because they are now including a ‘legal ad’, similiar to liquor applications. Whatever that means.

So basically, instead of the city helping to assist in making it easier and more rewarding for artisans in the city of Newburyport to sell their wares on the street, they are actually making it more expensive, and more difficult! If it wasn’t for the push by a few local artisans last year in getting the ‘artisan designation’ for a TVL to be included in the city ordinance revision, there would be absolutely no incentive for an artisan in this city to sell their wares on the streets in Newburyport whatsoever!

As stated many times in prior updates, the long term goal of these ‘Artisan Designated Licenses’ would be to establish the groundwork for a year round Artisan Market in the city of Newburyport. In my next update, I will be getting into a lot more of the history, specifics, and current actions that are now being undertaken in order for this goal to be realized.

Major Announcement!

* Yankee Homecoming Inn Street Artisans Revival –

   Expands to Incorporate ‘Market Square Craft Day’ (State and Pleasant Streets)

The Yankee Homecoming Inn Street Artisans Revival show has now been expanded to incorporate the ‘Market Square Craft day’ that has taken place each year on Tuesdays during Yankee Homecoming. This year, it will take place on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 and will span Inn, State, and Pleasant Streets under the supervision of the Artisans Revival!

There will be some significant adjustments to State and Pleasant Streets to incorporate this show. Stay tuned for more information as it comes available.

* Revisions to the expanded Artisans Revival 2018 show schedule

In my last update I announced the expansion of the Inn Street Artisans Revival show schedule for 2018. After some more thought and input, we have now revised this schedule. We have also revised the payments on these shows to make it more affordable and worthwhile for artisans. Base price for shows are $100.00 a day. The Artisan Revival Artwalk shows have now been expanded to include weekends (Saturdays being the scheduled Newburyport Gallery Artwalk Shows), with the second day at half price! Three day shows (Labor Day weekend) will include the third day free! Keep in mind that the Spring and Harvest Fest shows have been scheduled in order to align with the Chamber of Commerce Festivals on Sunday and Monday of the same weekend. This has been done in order to give artisans the ability to exhibit on Inn Street all three days of the Holiday weekends (Memorial and Columbus Days). More information will become available regarding these shows in time. Please email or call for any questions.
